Course Outline:

Day 1

Module 1  Enter & Work in a Confined Space

  • The WHS Act, Regulations, Confined Space Code of Practice and the Australian Standard AS 2865
  • Definition of a Confined Space
  • Responsibilities of management, employees, contractors and all parties
  • Strategies for implementing the Confined Space Legislation
  • Typical confined space control measures: tripods, gas detection, ventilation & breathing apparatus reviw

Module 2  Work in Accordance with an Issued Permit

  • What is a permit
  • Confined space, heights, hot work, excavation permits etc
  • Permit contents
  • Your legal responsibility when working with permits

Module 3 Conduct hazard analysis

  • Assessing risk: Work task risk assessments
  • Identifying hazards
  • Risk ranking hazards
  • Introducing control measures
  • Complete a formal confined space risk assessment

Day 2

Module 4  Gas Test Atmospheres

  • Assessing atmospheric hazards
  • The respiratory system
  • Toxic gases, their effects and safe exposure levels
  • Explosive gases/vapours and safe exposure levels
  • Oxygen hazards and safe exposure levels
  • As detection equipment, operation, safe use field calibration
  • How to test for suspected atmospheric hazards that are beyond your current equipment capabilities

Module 5  Issue Permits

  • Review confined space procedures and controls
  • Review of risk assessment
  • Complete of the Confined Space Entry, Heights & Hotwork permits
  • Brief permit
  • Set up and use entry/exit equipment
  • Carry out rescue scenarios on training deck using breathing apparatus et

Module 6 Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

  • Training in accordance with ARC guidelines
  • Follow safe practices DRSABCD
  • Demonstrate effective CPR on an adult mannequin and an infant
  • Demonstrate the correct use of a Defibrillation Machine

 

Day 3

Module 7  Operate Breathing Apparatus

    • Types of breathing equipment and their application
    • Operation & expected duration
    • Correct donning procedures
    • Practical use & individual consumption rates
    • General maintenance and hygiene

Equipment Use Practical

  • Practical training using SCBA including, donning, working in and removing SCBA
  • Set up and use confined space equipment, including tripods, harness, rope rescue devices and recovery equipment. Conduct non toxic rescue.

Module 8 Observe Permit Work

  • Ensure as the permit holder the set up and use confined space equipment, including tripods, harness, rope rescue devices and recovery equipment as per the permit
  • Conduct a risk review of the work area prior to starting work
  • Continue with dynamic risk review during work operations to ensure continued safety of workers
  • Record workers into/out of space, and record gas readings
  • Rehearse emergency response plan prior to starting work
  • Activate emergency response plan as required
  • Make end of day reports to permit issuer

Module 9  Confined Space Rescue

  • Review confined space procedures and controls
  • Review of risk assessment
  • Complete of the Confined Space Entry Permit
  • Brief permit
  • Set up and use entry/exit equipment
  • Carry out rescue scenarios on training deck using breathing apparatus etc

Course Assessments Duration: 2 Hours

PARTICIPANTS MUST BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH, AND MUST BE ABLE TO FILL OUT ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION.  We can train people where English is an issue, but it needs to be on a specially scheduled programme and YOU WILL NEED TO provide an interpreter..
