VERIFICATION OF COMPETENCY ASSESSMENTS

With the introduction of the Work Health and Safety Act of 2011 persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must ensure their workers can clearly demonstrate their ability to perform the tasks related to their job.

Many major construction companies require new employees/contractors to provide a Verification of Competency (VOC) before starting on the job, regardless of their experience.

Sydney Safety Training specialize in confined space and safe work at heights training to national units of competency. We have industry experienced Cert IV Workplace Trainers and Assessors conduct all our training programmes.  We also provide a Verification of Competency (VOC) service to those companies that require it.

Verification of Competency (VOC)

Confined Space Qualifications

Confined space training already has a refresher course programme in place to provide employers with a VOC of workers competencies as gained on their initial training programme. This programme is conducted over one day, and covers all units of competency generally issued that relate to confined space entry. For more details regarding this programme click here.

Safe Work at Heights Qualifications

Safe work at heights training is one of our busiest programmes on offer. We also provide a 2-3 hour VOC for workers who hold a current “Safe Work at Heights” ticket (not older than 3 years). If a workers heights ticket is older than three years, we would recommend a refresher course. As this is a one day programme, we recommend redoing the programme. For details click here.

VOCs for heights training can be conducted at our site or yours. We conduct the following:

  • Start with a toolbox talk regarding heights
  • Have all staff done a harness
  • Practical review of typical heights set ups ie anchoring, fall restraint & fall arrest
  • Discussion on heights rescue

Upon successful completion, staff participating would receive form us a “Verification of Competency” letter for the employer. Those staff who did not demonstrate competency would receive a letter recommending retraining.

VOCs are conducted upon request, and pricing varies depending on the location, staff numbers etc.
