Course Information

Participants will understand the:

  • Process of completing a confined space risk assessment
  • Need to have a detailed rescue plan in the risk assessment

They are instructed on:

  • The regulatory requirement for a confined space permit
  • What their responsibilities are when they work under permit conditions under the WHS Act
  • What the confined space permit must include (all hazards, controls & PPE, gas test recording, an entry exit log and the detailed rescue plan)

Day 1

 

Module 1 Enter & Work in a Confined Space & Enter Confined Space

  • The WHS Act, Regulations, Confined Space Code of Practice and the Australian Standard AS 2865
  • Definition of a Confined Space
  • Responsibilities of management, employees, contractors and all parties
  • Strategies for implementing the Confined Space Legislation
  • Typical confined space control measures: tripods, gas detection, ventilation & breathing apparatus reviw

Module 2 Work in Accordance with an Issued Permit

  • What is a permit
  • Confined space, heights, hot work, excavation permits etc
  • Permit contents
  • Your legal responsibility when working with permits

Module 3 Conduct Hazard Analysis

  • Assessing risk: Work task risk assessments
  • Identifying hazards
  • Risk ranking hazards
  • Introducing control measures
  • Complete a formal confined space risk assessment

Equipment Use Practical

  • Set up and use confined space equipment, including tripods, harness, rope rescue devices and recovery equipment. Conduct non-toxic rescue.

This person is not required to act as a confined space standby (Observer) or a confined space rescuer. They are simply workers who are required to work under direct supervision in the space. Training will cover:

  • Confined Space legislation and Workplace Hazards and Safe Work Procedures
  • Confined Space risk assessment and documentation
  • Confined Space Entry Permits
  • Confined Space equipment, using CF harnesses, tripods and VED devices

Public Courses:

Our confined space course starts at 7:30am every Monday, Wednesday & Friday morning at our training centre in Villawood.  The training hours for the day are from 7:30am to 3pm.  This course takes only ONE DAY and finishes by 3pm.

Training at our site means you can send staff along for public programmes at times suitable to your work commitments. You can send up to ten staff, but for these numbers we would also arrange special dates/times for your group.

  • Courses are held for the public every week commencing at 7:30am, check in at 7:20am.
  • All the potential hazards that might be present in confined spaces
  • What controls should be in place to mitigate those hazards
  • How to set up, gas test, use a permit, and have people enter and exit a confined space using both a tripod and a davit and winch

Successful participants will know what should be in place for them to enter confined spaces safely, and when they should not enter that space until the appropriate controls are in place

If you require onsite training, we can book dates and times to suit you. We take up to ten staff on this course and will bring along our purpose built “Confined Space Training Trailer”.  This trailer allows us to run realistic training for your staff that meets the practical requirements to attain the units of competency issued.

No, you do not require any experience or personal protective equipment to be eligible to book for this course.

Sydney Safety Training’s Confined Space Course for Workers is conducted every week and costs $225 per person. Group bookings of ten people at our Villawood Training Centre cost $1,650, or $2,100 plus expenses if conducted off-site.

Please wear standard work clothing, enclosed boots, and, if applicable, prescription glasses.

We recommend a Confined Space Entry Refresher Course any time within one to three years.
