Course outline Participants will understand the:

  • Process of completing a confined space risk assessment
  • Need to have a detailed rescue plan in the risk assessment

They are instructed on:

  • The regulatory requirement for a confined space permit
  • What their responsibilities are when they work under permit conditions under the WHS Act
  • What the confined space permit must include (all hazards, controls & PPE, gas test recording, an entry exit log and the detailed rescue plan)

Training

This person is not required to act as a confined space standby (Observer) or a confined space rescuer. They are simply workers who are required to work under direct supervision in the space. Training will cover: 

– Confined Space legislation and Workplace Hazards and Safe Work Procedures
– Confined Space risk assessment and documentation
– Confined Space Entry Permits
Confined Space equipment, using CF harnesses, tripods and VED devices

Participants must demonstrate – All the potential hazards that might be present in confined spaces
– What controls should be in place to mitigate those hazards
– How to set up, gas test, use a permit, and have people enter and exit a confined space using both a tripod and a davit and winch
Course outcomes Successful participants will know what should be in place for them to enter confined spaces safely, and when they should not enter that space until the appropriate controls are in place
